In my former role as Program Director of Workplace Fairness (www.workplacefairness.org), an information site for workers to learn more about their legal rights and other workplace issues, this lawyer learned a lot about what it takes to build a top-notch website. During the course of my tenure, our website and my blog won some "Best of the Web" type awards, but then we ran out of money, and all the staff was laid off. Ten days later, we found out we were a Webby nominee.
In my current job, I don't have much to do with our website or other technology applications, but would like to maintain the connection. Plus, I'm harboring all of these vague entrepreneurial impulses (we'll see if Startup Weekend rids me of them or makes them even stronger) to see if I can develop a relatively passive form of side income that will open some career options for me outside the nonprofit world where I've been for most of my career.
Skills:
Web Content: writing, editing, blogging, and online organizing; Building Informational Websites: I can figure out what should be there and how they should work -- just don't make me get near the code.

Thanks for pointing this article out to me. I can't wait until technology develops even more. One of the other things I'd love to see soon, which is a real possibility, is affordable 3-D printers. Imagine the pandas you could print!
Hi, Paula. Yes, I plan on coming to the launch party - see you there. Not sure what material you are referring to about underground dining, but would be interested in talking to you more about it.
Thanks for the warm welcome. I am actually not much of a techie (except perhaps in relationship to those who don't follow technology innovations at all.) But I was chatting with Ralph about WidgetDevCamp and Startup Weekend, and he invited me to join this group.
Hey Paula, welcome to the DC Tech Network. This is a common place for the local tech community to come together, meet one another, and exchange ideas. I hope you find it useful.
If you have any questions, ideas, or concerns, please let me know.
Also... tells us more about yourself. What kind of work do you do? You know Ralph, which makes you cool by default. :-)
